Our Interior Painting Process
Preparation
We move and cover furniture, protect floors with drop cloths, fill nail holes, caulk gaps, and sand surfaces smooth. Proper prep is 70% of a quality paint job.
Priming
We prime all bare wood, repairs, and stains. For dramatic color changes, we tint primer to your finish color for better coverage and fewer coats.
Painting
Two finish coats applied with proper dry time between. We cut in edges by hand for crisp lines, then roll walls for uniform texture.
Choosing the Right Paint
We use premium paints that last. Here's what we recommend and why:
Sherwin-Williams Emerald
Our go-to for walls. Excellent hide, washable finish, low VOC.
Best for: Living areas, bedrooms, hallways
Benjamin Moore Advance
Water-based alkyd for trim and cabinets. Levels like oil, cleans up with water.
Best for: Trim, doors, cabinets
Sherwin-Williams Duration Home
Matte finish that actually washes clean. Great for high-traffic areas.
Best for: Kitchens, bathrooms, kids rooms
Sheen guide: Flat/matte hides wall imperfections but isn't washable. Eggshell is our standard for walls - slight sheen, washable, hides imperfections well. Satin for kitchens/baths - more washable. Semi-gloss for trim - durable and wipeable.
Interior Painting FAQs
How long does interior painting take?
A typical bedroom takes 1 day (prep, prime, 2 coats, dry time). Whole house interiors range from 4-7 days depending on size, condition, and how much furniture needs moving. We provide a detailed timeline with your estimate.
Do I need to move my furniture?
We move and cover furniture as part of our service. For large pieces, we slide them to the center of the room and cover with plastic. You should remove breakables, wall hangings, and electronics. We'll handle the heavy lifting.
What about the smell and VOCs?
We use low-VOC and zero-VOC paints (Sherwin-Williams Harmony, Benjamin Moore Natura). There's minimal odor that dissipates within hours. We can also work in sections so you can stay in your home comfortably.
Can you match an existing color?
Yes. We can color-match from a chip, swatch, or even a painted surface. Our spectrophotometer gets it within 1-2% accuracy. For best results, we recommend choosing from current paint lines so touch-ups are easy later.
How do I prepare for painters?
Remove wall hangings, curtains, and small items from surfaces. Clear closets if we're painting them. We'll handle furniture, floors, and everything else. For kitchens, empty upper cabinets if we're painting them. We'll send a prep checklist 2 days before we start.
